By the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
The Sacrament of Confirmation, received at 16 years old (11th grade) in the Diocese of Lafayette, is the third Sacrament of Initiation. At the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, we prepare for Confirmation through classes, pilgrimages, service, participation in the Parish and retreat. We have 9 classes separated in 3 traditional phases: Inquiry, Catechesis, and Illumination.
The Inquiry period invites the candidate to say "Yes!" to God's call to Confirmation. The Catechesis period invites the Candidate into a full understanding of the Sacrament. The Illumination period invites the Candidate to spiritually prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and live life in the Church afterwards.
